WHO WE ARE

The Alliance of Nova Scotia Student Associations ( ANSSA) represents over 35,000 university students across Nova Scotia. Our members study on campuses spanning from Dalhousie’s Nursing Campus in Yarmouth to Cape Breton University at the opposite end of the province. Over eighty per cent of Nova Scotia’s university student population are members of ANSSA.

ANSSA’s membership is the second largest of any not-for-profit in the Maritime Provinces and is the largest youth led organization in Atlantic Canada. In Nova scotia we represent both the majority of University Students ( 83%) and the majority of student associations ( Six of 11)

VISION

ANSSA envisions a post secondary education system that is accessible, affordable and of the highest quality.

MISSION

ANSSA brings thoughtful, evidenced-based solutions to the problems facing our post-secondary education system. We are student-driven and solution focused. We are advocates for and stewards of the post-secondary education system.

OUR APPROACH

ANSSA has committed to using a variety of principles and approaches to achieve our vision.

MEMBER DRIVEN

An executive committee of elected student representatives from each member school shapes and approves our policies, budget and annual activities. Through our semi-annual student assembly we constantly seek feedback from a wide-array of student on each campus.

RESEARCH AND INQUIRY

ANSSA provides its membership with summaries and briefs of the most up-to-date research to ensure that discussions about important policy issues are informed and influenced by evidence and the latest available information

PUBLICATIONS AND REPORTS

ANSSA regularly produces reports and research that advise and support our policy creation and advocacy efforts. Our reports are publicly accessible and have been referenced and drawn upon by academics and policy experts throughout the field.

COOPERATION AND COLLABORATION

ANSSA actively seeks partnerships with organizations of common interest when and when appropriate.

CAMPAIGNS

ANSSA organizes campaigns on an as needed basis to effectively articulate the needs and interests of our members.

MEDIA RELATIONS

ANSSA works with provincial and regional media outlets to communicate the importance of our issues and activities to the public at large.

LOBBYING THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT

At the end of the day, ANSSA is a vehicle through which students can effectively communicate with government, bureaucrats and key decision makes. ANSSA has developed relationships with individuals throughout the bureaucracy in Nova Scotia, each of the three major political parties and elected government representatives.
